In the heavens a choir sang. Their voices were as strong and beautiful as they appeared themselves, and reached to spots on the Earth to touch many lives through the power of God. A certain angel, curious of his own will, came down from the heavens and sang in a choir to a group of the lost causes for his first time. These angels had vision like no other human had. Their eyes were gold, making it possible to see into the spiritual realm, such as demons and things along those lines. What he saw through his golden eyes were evil creatures gripping upon the lost hearts. This experience had made him curious, and usually angels are not. They learn by watching what they do, but it was the first time for this angel to come to Earth and see it for himself.
~~~
"Tell me you're left behind
Something you'll mean everything right before you die...
But if you gain of the world
You've already lost four little souls from your life...
Widows and orphans are hard to find
Their home is in Daddy who's saving you random tonight...
Where's your drink? And would hurry and kill you
Sympathy's better than having to tell you the truth...
That you are the patron saint of lost causes..." An angel sang under a beautiful willow tree. He held a golden acoustic guitar and played the melody over and over. The flowers around him hymned with him as the gentle wind blew his golden hair across his face.
"Jeremiah, be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." A tall man with a brown beard said to him. The angel looked up.
"Jesus, why do humans let evil distract them? I do not understand..." The man, Jesus, came to him and put his right hand on his left shoulder.
"The world is a sinful place, and many of my children are blinded. To experience this, you will have to put on their shoes." He said gently. Jeremiah stood up and looked at the brilliant sky.
"May I?" He suddenly asked. Jesus smiled.
"I knew you would say that. Are you sure?"
"Yes, youre Majesty." Jeremiah confirmed. An archangel, Gabriel, appeared. He was wearing shining armor. He was God's top messenger angel. Gabriel took off Jeremiah's white robe and sandals. Jesus started to explain what was going to, is and will happen to him.
"Living in the world will make you shameful and foolish; this is why you do not have your robe on. Do not forget about who you really are. Help people as you walk on the jagged ground. Tell them about Me. Tell them about the Life, the Living Water. Spread the Good News! I will pick you up when you are ready." Jesus smiled again one last time and Gabriel took him outside the gates of heaven. Suddenly Gabriel spread out his wings and carried Jeremiah to Earth. They moved faster than the speed of light.
"I am God's Messenger. I will tell you when you need to gather yourself and leave. As you fall, you will lose your abilities of what you have. Your golden eyes that help you see spiritually, your defense against evil, and your wings to fly. Don't forget about who you really are." He repeated. "You will also gain knowledge of a human. You will experience the sins of the world. Be careful. Do not be a lost cause." He finished. The world now came to sight and a dark glow surrounded it. Jeremiah remembered seeing this when he came down to sing for the lost ones. He touched many people by the power of God through his voice.
Gabriel let go of Jeremiah and flew back to heaven. He was left falling towards the Earth. His wings started to disappear and so did the dark glow around the earth. This meant Gabriel was right. He lost his vision. He closed his eyes, not seeing that he hit the round, bubble-like glow and fell through like water. Jeremiah looked again and saw a body he was going to fall into. He fit into it like walking through a door.
Jeremiah was now a human.
~~~
Jeremiah opened his eyes and found himself in a church. He could hear a choir or angels singing, but he couldn't see them. He remembered what Gabriel said again. He looked around and was in a large crowd at what they called a 'revival meeting'. It was something a church had when the power of God changed lives and that people could feel His presence. He felt at home. His mind was going through his whole human life, like he had always been here. He knew who his mother and father were, and that he was an only child. He knew what school he went to when he was little and how to write, or do math. He was just like any other average teenager. He didn't feel any sin yet, none-the-less did he know how it felt like. The preacher in the church talked about flesh, how it always wants sin like a drug. He was very surprised at how well humans could preach!
After the service, Jeremiah went to do his usual human thing: take a shower before going to bed. It was still such a weird thing for him. He remembered being an angel, but it was like he was human all his life. It confused him.
He reached for a towel and locked the door. He enjoyed taking showers with the curtain open, oddly.
Jeremiah stood under the shower and started to ponder if he really was an angel. It was like someone was telling him he wasn't. He started to scrub his head with shampoo and randomly glanced at the mirror beside him. He saw himself. He didn't have golden hair, but it was very blond like it. His eyes were blue instead of gold. The newest thing was that he was a male. Not...an angel. See, as an angel, he had no--how should it be put?--genders. This was the biggest change to him so far. He was quite fit, as well. He shrugged and continued to shower himself, and soon fell asleep afterwards.
An alarm clock rang at 6:00 in the morning. Jeremiah smashed it with his hand and sat up straight. His head pounded from a headache. His hair was all over the place as well. Suddenly his mother came in and said the bus was going to pick him up. He grunted, changed, combed his hair and picked up his backpack. Bacon and eggs waited for him at the table. His father walked by and into another room where his mother seemed to be. Jeremiah sat there crunching on bacon when he started to hear the conversation getting louder. He thought they'd get over it and walked outside. He doesn't really know how anger feels like yet unless it was how he reacted to his alarm clock.
The bus arrived and he walked inside. There were many kids from elementary to high school. He found a spot by a random teenage boy.
"Hey, I haven't seen you around these parts. You new?" The boy asked.
"Yes...I guess I am." Jeremiah responded. He didn't want to talk much since his head hurt anyway. The two sat very quietly on the way to school. The bus stopped and Jeremiah hopped off. First thing was first, hockey practice. How did he know and remember where he's supposed to go when he was an angel in the first place? God only knows...
He stepped into the men's dressing room. Many of them were changing. They looked at him and laughed.
"He's new! It's time for the initiation, boys!" A boy by the name of Clark said. Two other boys, big and bulky, grabbed Jeremiah and headed towards the bathrooms. He became restless, knowing what was going to happen.
"Stop it!" He yelled. They continued to laugh and then opened the bathroom door. He already had a headache and didn't want it to get worse. "Stop it or you'll regret it!" He threatened. There was a brief moment of silence.
Suddenly a toilet flushed. The men still changing paused and waited to laugh at Jeremiah when he came out wet. They gasped first.
Oh yes, Jeremiah did come out...but he wasn't wet. Then the men started to laugh when they saw the other two boys walk out wet instead. Jeremiah smirked and walked to his dresser locker. He just made his first impression, and it made him proud. He hesitated and thought "That was a strange feeling, but it felt good". Little did he know...he just tasted a small sin.
A bell rang and hockey practice started. Many guys came up to him giving him high-fives and pats on the back, not to mention slaps on his butt. They even called him 'Pretty Boy'. That was a shock. He did well for his first practice. He shot a few goals and blocked a few pucks. He had a reputation now and planned to keep it up high.
Once they were back in the dresser rooms to change back, Jeremiah noticed the guys talking about girls. Not just girls, but what they thought about girls and even what they do to them. Some other men stayed out of the conversation, but Jeremiah couldn't help but to listen in. Clark came up to him and asked if he's ever gone out with one yet. He shrugged. He really didn't think about girls. After all, he just got here.
"I bet you can't even ask out a girl if you wanted to!" He bragged.
"Psh." Is all what Jeremiah had to say. He didn't really care, but someone was telling him he could be even more proud of himself if he did it anyway. He looked around for a moment as they continued to change clothes. He noticed he was much prettier and fit than most guys. He smirked, accepting the 'challenge'. This was his first taste of pride, but he didn't realize it.
School continued after that and he noticed a few pretty girls. They all looked at him and giggled--all the time! All he did was smile at them and they went on a giggling frenzy! Did he suddenly turn ugly? "I sure hope not..." He thought to himself. Finally when the last class ended, a girl ran up to him and asked him out.
"Sure..." He said, and watched her run off after giving him her number. She had brown wavy hair and eyes. "I didn't even have to ask her out...that wasn't hard at all." He whispered to himself. Jeremiah thought for a moment. Maybe it was a little mean to do that or to hide something that could be a big deal to her, but someone else was telling him that it was okay. It's just a game. She just doesn't need to know it. That was his first taste of a lie, but he didn't think so. He went home and found his parents fighting again. With his head pounding more, he sighed and went to his room.
Suddenly someone was calling him on his cell phone.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Hi, It's Melisa." A girl said. It was the one who asked him out earlier.
"Oh, hello."
"Yeah, umm...there's a dance tonight. Do you want to come?" She asked nervously.
"Sure. I need to get out of here anyway." Jeremiah said, hearing his parents scream again. They hung up and he snuck out of the house late that night. He decided to not tell his parents. They probably won't let him since they're in a bad mood. He climbed out the window, meant up with her and didn't come home till 4 in the morning. He managed this without his parents knowing.
The next day at school was a drag. He was very tired and that made him annoyed at everything and everyone. It was a bad day for school. The two boys who were flushed yesterday had ganged up on him with friends and pounded him. He was too tired to defend himself. It was strange to feel pain. It stung extremely bad. He felt his lip and saw blood on his fingers. Curiously, he tasted it. It was like iron and made his throat itch a bit.
"If you tell anyone we did this, you won't live next time" They said, and left him alone. He was frightened, but very angry.
He looked in the mirror when he was changing for practice. His beautiful face was now blue and purple, and a bit bloody. His pride wasn't there anymore now that he took a beating. He just wanted to throw one back, and surely they won't live next time! The other boys who gave him high-fives yesterday were now laughing at him. Clark continued to 'accidently' hurt Jeremiah with his hockey stick. He was very mad...Throughout the day it grew worse.
His girlfriend ran up to him and tried her hardest not to cry. After a few guesses from Jeremiah, she just blurted it out.
"I'm pregnant!" She whispered. Jeremiah's heart skipped a beat.
"What?!" He screamed. People around them glared at him. "Who all knows?"
"Just me, you and my friends..."
"How many friends do you have?"
"A lot..." She answered. He almost went through another heart attack.
The next few weeks of school flew by and Jeremiah's anger with the students rose to a higher potential. He couldn't stand people still mocking him. Though his bruises were disappearing, many people threatened him to see him wince or flinch.
"He may be a pretty boy, but he doesn't have much of an ego now!" He heard Clark say. It wasn't the first time he has heard that before.
Throughout the days, nothing became better. The kids stared at him, knowing he made a girl pregnant. They talked behind his back and spread rumors around the school. It wasn't the same compared to the first day he was here.
That very day he went home and saw his father leaving the house with a suitcase.
"Where are you go--" His father shut the door on him. He twirled around and his mom was standing there.
"Your father and I are getting divorced." She said. Jeremiah couldn't believe what he was hearing and ran into his room. He punched the wall to release some anger; then again, he got a call.
"Hello?" He answered, trying to keep his voice from exploding.
"Hi, this is Melisa again..." She answered, but she sounded much quieter. Jeremiah settled down after knowing it was her.
"Hey, how's it going? I haven't seen you at school this month."
"No because..." she hesitated and her voice suddenly became loud "because I can't stand the pressure anymore! My parents found out a week ago and kicked me out, and my friends don't talk to me anymore and I'm not ready for a baby yet!" She cried into the phone.
"It's not that bad..." He realized he said the wrong thing when she didn't say anything "What are you going to do?" Still, she didn't say anything. Suddenly a chill went down his spine and to his toes. "Wait...you're not going to kill yourself, are you? It's just a baby and..." He had no answer. "Melisa? Melisa, are you ther--" A gunshot was heard through the phone. "MELISA!" He yelled. He ran out his door, ignored his mother asking him where he was going, hopped onto his motorcycle and drove as fast as he could to her house. All the way there his thoughts were racing. "What did I do to deserve this? I only said yes because it was a little game, and games don't end out like this...Do they?"
He arrived and police surrounded the area. He saw surgeons carry a dead body into an ambulance. Suddenly a policeman grabbed his shoulder.
"Are you Jeremiah?" He asked.
"Yes." Instantly the police officer arrested him and threw him into a car.
"You're prime suspect of an accessory to a murder."
"Murder?! No!" He tried to explain, but the door was shut on him again.
He spent that night in jail, and finally had the chance to explain to the judge what happened. They let him out the following morning. His mom punished him from everything but school for running out without her permission. The next few days might have been better if he slept in a coffin, he thought. Everything ended up piling down on him and he felt as if he could barely breathe!
Kids at school pushed Jeremiah around and mocked him even more, trying to make his life worse. It was working. He thought they would have been scared of him since they thought he killed Melisa, but they all said, "Oh, he's just trying to put on an act for attention!" That was it. He was fed up with it all. He had forgotten already that he was an angel. He figured it was just a dream and stuck with it. He didn't care if what he did was bad now. He was addicted to it, like a drug.
The next day he arrived to school with a strange attitude, like he was the best again. The two boys who pounded him a month ago came back and were going to do it again, since he was 'asking for it'.
"Don't move." Jeremiah commanded. They didn't listen and took another step. "I mean it. You don't want to mess with me."
"Oh-ho! There he goes again! Thinking he's the best, huh? Well we've got something to say to you again. This time you won't live!" They said. "Say goodbye!"
Jeremiah just laughed. Out of his pocket, he slipped out a gun and aimed it to them. They stood in shock.
"Goodbye." He said. He pulled down the trigger and suddenly light blinded his eyes. The two boys stood in awe as they watched him disappear.
~~~
"Jeremiah, it's time to come home." A strong, mighty voice told him. He looked up and saw Gabriel. He looked familiar, like the angel he saw in his 'dream'. He looked around him and saw demons--ugly, evil creatures--holding him down with chains and ropes. He noticed he was naked, as a symbol of foolishness. He had his golden vision back, like in his 'dream'. Suddenly he felt pain streak down his back. The demons were clawing and whipping him. A sound came into his ears. It was a beautiful choir singing. "I'm an angel!" He suddenly realized and instantly a pair of wings appeared on his back, but too soon the demons grabbed them and started to rip them off. This was the most physically painful thing he had ever felt before. "Where is my defense? Why can I not defend myself?" He quickened to think. He suddenly let out a loud scream as they almost ripped off his wings. The choir of angels continued to sing around him. Gabriel stood watching Jeremiah.
"Sing praise with us. You know you are a part of it...You are not the one that defends yourself. It is God." He said. Jeremiah didn't hesitate. He let out a strong melody, different but matching with the choir. Gabriel opened a bible and the demons fled in an instant. Jeremiah dropped to the ground and closed his eyes. He heard Jesus speak to him.
"You just encountered life of a child on Earth. No one will remember you, and my girl, Melisa is still alive. Do not worry about leaving one more scar in the world. It is like you never were human, and always an angel; always my helper. I love you."
Jeremiah looked up and saw Jesus reaching out his hand. He took it and lifted him up. All his wounds disappeared and he became happy and light-hearted again. Jesus took him to heaven where Jeremiah relaxed and sat down under the willow tree with his golden acoustic guitar, again. He hesitated before he started to play and thought about what he had just gone through. It was as if he was only gone for a second. Now he knows why humans do what they do...because they are made to find themselves and save the lost causes.
"Babey, don't you understand?
Melisa stood as long as she could and then...
You made her faith disappear
More like a magician
and less like a man of the cloth.
We're not questioning God!
Just those he chose to carry on his cause...
We'll grow better, you'll see
Just all of us, the lost causes...
Aren't we all to You just lost causes?"
Did you know...
-This story was inspired by the song Fin* by Anberlin. In this story, Jeremiah sings some of the lyrics of the song, but some of the words I've changed to match the story.
-When I listen to the song Fin*, I have my own movie-like picture that goes with it. This story is that movie-like picture.
-Angels don't have genders. Hard to believe, huh? All the pictures you see on the internet make them look like flying babies, or naked men/women. No! They wear robes or armor and they don't have a gender. It was just easier for me to say 'him' than 'it' for Jeremiah in the story.
-MOST angels DON'T look like humans in real life. Some look like fire, or a glowing ball...they take shapes of things. Confusing, no? I'll answer any questions!
-Flowers do sing in heaven.
-I can't describe the beauty in heaven because it's far beyond my imagination. That's why I didn't talk about the scenery about it as much.
-I know these things about angels and heaven because I have read and heard things from different people who have been to heaven and experienced angels. I had the same results from each person each time.
-Lost causes in this story are supposed to be humans that are unsaved. They are LOST and they make CAUSES. Therefore...LOST CAUSES. In the song Fin*, they sing LOST CAUSES a lot. It's a really good song...go look it up! You'll see my movie-like picture when you hear it after reading this.
-There are some people in the world who near the same situation as Jeremiah when his girlfriend became pregnant...think about those things. There are people who have it worse than you. Suicide, school shootings, divorces...
***Angels CANNOT turn into humans and experience sin like I just told you in the story. This is a fiction story and only God knows what He can do, but trust me...nothing like this has ever happened, and if it has, it would be in the bible. Now it does say in the bible that angels have been turned into humans BUT...when they do this, you can never tell, and they never fall into sin, and they don't just stay and live on the Earth like Jeremiah did, and they do this to help people! Such as...if you're stuck on the side of the road, and a random stranger comes up to you, helps you without asking or taking money and suddenly...the stranger disappears. READ HEBREWS 13:2! That's what I'm talking about. Now if you have ANY questions PLEASE send me a note. I am more than happy to reply. Let me remind you again...This is a fictional story. I posted the facts above, unless I forgot some. Everything else is just something I found interesting if it could happen but it doesn't. It was just for my readers' entertainment and had many morals in it. By the way, I hope you learned the morals as well! Find as many as you can! God bless you all!!!***
Based on the song Fin* by Anberlin and Hebrews 13:2
